A small village close to home houses the only European museum of itinerant theaters. It’s small, it’s quaint, and it’s fascinating history.

Improbably, the man next to me on my daily commute was reading a book by Yoss, an amazing but little known Cuban SF writer. So I’m now reading reading his latest, Zhen Galac. Memories of JL Borges.

Using Fluid.app to create a standalone application for my RoamResearch notebook. Next best thing to having an actual app.

There’s weirdly little activity on the 🖖 front. Are people biding their time, avoiding spoilers, or just disappointed?

Dipping my toes in Roam. There’s a lot to like, and it clicks in a way other system’s haven’t.

I’m surprised by the lack of comparison with Tinderbox and/or TheBrain. Does anybody have thoughts?

While completely accurate, the title is a little bit misleading - The Hidden Cost of Migrant Labor examines the emotional toil of growing up in a migrant family through the prism of UAE migrant labor. It’s helped me sort through some of my own feelings about my time in the Gulf.

Jojo Rabbit ★★★★ Hadn’t heard anything about it. An emotional roller coaster. Discovered afterwards it’s very polarizing (at least in 🇫🇷). Special mention for Scarlett Johansson, but the entire cast is amazingly on point. 🍿

I was trying to figure out if the Michael Chabon in the Picard credits was this guy. Turns out it is - which explains why Picard is so well written. Also, this article was an unexpectedly emotional read.

The French Volleyball federation has inspirational posters with a Beckett quote on them (“Try again, Fail Again, Fail Better”). Quick research just taught me that they (and I) had fallen prey - along with all of bro culture - to a radical misunderstanding, to say the least.

This amazingly good Tom Yam is 30 minutes away from my office but I may have to fit it in my monthly rotation

A cristal clear Bluetooth connection to capture the analog scratch of the needle. Modernity is weird. 🎼

My wife knows me too well. A vinyl of the last Leonard Cohen album for an early saint Nicolas.

#

My kid’s fencing club is wading through a mix of high drama between the teachers, helicopter parents and snotty teenagers. I’m struggling to find the right path to preserve her passion.

#

Leonard Cohen’s son Adam finished the album he and his dad where working on when he died. It’s called “Thanks for the Dance” and it had me crying my whole commute this morning.

Others may have already linked to A better internet is waiting for us on the NYT. No mention of micro.blogging but some interesting ideas about cleaning the cesspool of social media.

A small little renaissance pavilion in the middle of Orléans is open once a year. It’s the city’s old “treasury”. All that remains inside are the ornate vaulted ceilings. 21AA5EC6-2B77-4F69-96A5-63553F988D22.jpg 3CD38D8D-9C1B-4A28-8C81-A2C59462B188.jpg 8DFC8166-062D-466A-808E-540F922D2C1B.jpg

If I start a 30 day microblogging challenge today, I’ll get a nice pin on New Year’s Day, to usher in my writing resolution. #planahead

This fall, I’ve discovered a new variety of pear, the abate. Apparently it’s good for chain stores because it’s hardy, but it’s not really tasty… give me a conference any day. (Which apparently was going to be named congress, until someone realized it was a bit racy)

Getting 6 months of work derailed by a client literally at the last minute, during the roll out meeting, just so he could look « good » in front of the boss. My mood is … not happy.

Paris photo again: Hassan Hajjaj ’s stuff is amazing. I’m really happy they also chose to expose him in the subway (line 14, Gare de Lyon and Madeleine, if you know Paris)
